Apple famously marketed Snow Leopard as having "zero new features".

Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X, the goals of Snow Leopard were improved performance, greater efficiency and the reduction of its overall memory footprint.

The release of Snow Leopard came nearly two years after the launch of Mac OS X Leopard, the second longest time span between successive Mac OS X releases (the time span between Tiger and Leopard was the longest). As a result of the low price, initial sales of Snow Leopard were significantly higher than that of its predecessors whose price started at US$129. On August 28, 2009, it was released worldwide, and was made available for purchase from Apple's website and retail stores at the price of US$29 for a single-user license. Snow Leopard was publicly unveiled on Jat Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

it will boot you into startup disk manager and one of the options will be to boot from the dvd in the dvd drive of the imac.Īnother option is to restore the install dvd to a partition on a usb drive and then boot the mini from that partition.Mac OS X Snow Leopard (version 10.6) is the seventh major release of macOS, Apple's desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers. then reboot the imac and hold option at the chime. You can get a firewire 400 to 800 cable, connect the macs by firewire and reboot the new imac in target mode with the install DVd inserted. IF it's not possible to use the remote install app then is there another way around it? Bearing in mind the MacMini has only USB2 and Firewire 400 and the iMac has USB2 and Firewire 800? Any ideas? It doesn't spell so clearly (it should) but it's definitely talking about the new mini server which comes without a built in dvd drive. Having reread the article I cannot see where it mentions that this is only possible with the new Mini Server, it states: "Use Remote Install Mac OS X on the partner computer whose optical disc drive you want to share when you want to do one of the following tasks on your MacBook Air or Mac mini." I am not trying to use the one that came with the iMac (I do know that is illegal). Hi, actually I do have a separately purchased Snow Leopard disk. The iMac has OS 10.6.2 and the MacMini 10.5.8. All I see are my usual list of users to select. However, when I try and use the "Remote Install Mac OS X" utility I get as far as restarting the MacMini (with the option key held down) but do not get the option of a list of startup disks. I have changed the library for the MacMini to point at the iMac and it works on the MacMini but only when the two are connected to the network. I know that the two Macs are working on the same wireless network as I have moved my iTunes library to the iMac and deleted it from the MacMini. I had hoped to put the MacMini in my lounge as an entertainment centre and I thought it might be a good idea to get the MacMini OS upgraded to Snow Leopard but the superdrive does not accept DVDs (this has been an issue for some time) so I thought I'd upgrade from the iMac using the "Remote Install Mac OS X" utility. I have cleared down the MacMini and put all my documents etc on the iMac (with an external hard drive attached to take advantage of Time Machine). Hi, I have recently purchased a new iMac as a replacement for my ageing MacMini.
